It was at the weekend morning. I was woken up by a noisy telephone ring. I ignored it and pulled the blanket up to sleep continually. The ring kept on ringing for a long time. I grumbled and fumbled for the phone. I picked on the phone with my eyes still closed. I uttered indistinctly,
“This is Mary speaking. Who is there?”
“This is mom, my dear daughter. Do I disturb you?”
“Oh. No! Not really, mom. How are you going these days?”
“Not bad, my sweet baby. I just call you to ask if you are free today.”
“Yes, I am spared. What do you want me to do for you?”
“I want to go shopping and buy some suits. Would you like accompany me?”
“Sure. It’s my pleasure. I will get up in a minute and drive to your house. It won’t be too long. Please be patient and wait for me.”
“OK, see you later.”
Hanging off the phone, I put on my clothes and rose as soon as possible. It puzzled me a little. When I was brushing and washing, I pondered.
I was brought up by my mother alone. After graduated from the university and went to work for 5 years, I lived outside. I went back to see my mother once for a while. Every time when I went home, I would take her out for shopping and buy her some clothes. But she always complained that I spent too much money on buying clothes. She said she was old and won’t need too many clothes. It was the first time that she asked of going shopping for clothes actively.
I drove to my mom’s house. At the corner of her block I saw her waving towards me and smiled sweetly, a gentleman standing beside her. I parked the car by her and got out.
“This is Mr.Steward. This is my daughter Mary.” She introduced us to each other. We shook hands.
“Your mother often mentions you in front of me. You are her proud.”
My mom looked at the gentleman lovingly and smilingly. I turned my eyes from the gentleman to my mom. I realized something.
I drove my mother to a store. On the way my mom smiled and hummed. Never did I see my mom so happy. I smiled,
“You love him, right?”
My mother turned to me and gazed at me with a smile. But she said nothing. I laughed,
“I can tell that from the way you looked him. You are falling in love.” I turned off the engine and turned to her,
“I am so happy for you, mom.” I stretched out my arms and hugged her.
We bought an Ed hardy suit that day. With the suit on, my mom looked younger and brighter.
