Witnessing Africa

The year 2009 I had my first trip to Africa. The trip was very tough to me for I was always living a comfortable as a citizen of the western civilized countries. I didn't realize that Africa was far more in trouble than it seemed in the television or on the newspapers.
All along my way, I saw the ragged houses and broken roads. Sometimes the road was so broken that we had to stop our car and build a "bridge" across the holes on the road to pass it. And the people along the way, especially children, were so skinny that I doubted that they maybe easily blown away by wind.
The sanitation facilities were also very bad there. There was almost no running water in the countryside. Women needed to go to the rivers miles away to fetch water. They used their head to hold the bowls containing water. Those waters in the river were also not very pure and partly polluted. People drinking this kind of water would easily get sick. A lot of kids died from the diseases caused by the bacteria in the water.
And the nature condition was also very tough. The sun was always shinning in the sky. The heat was unbearable. With no air conditioners, a lot of old people could not bear the heat and died. And with no refrigerator, foods would so easily decay and go bad. People eating this kind of stuff would be more inclined to fall ill and could not get the nutrition once contained in it.
So when I went back to America, I decided to do something for benefit of the people suffering in Africa. I remembered that many people in Africa didn't even have a bag. They use plastic bags to convey their food and any other stuff. But the plastic bags were so easily to wear out that sometimes foods would drop out during the transportation. And even children went to school without bags. They just held all their books in their arms and walked to the schools miles away from their home.
So I set up my mind to found a foundation to offer the kids in Africa duffel bags. We collected money and bought the wholesale bags made of duffel from the factories. Then we sent them in package to the schools of Africa. I only hoped that those duffel bags would the lives of the African children less hard.
